Mr. Momodou Joof is a graduate of the University of The Gambia with double majors in Development Studies and History and also graduated as the Best History Student in the 2008 graduating class. In 2016, he obtained the Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Herriot Watt University, Edinburg Business School and a Professional Certificate in Islamic Banking with INCIEF University in Malaysia. He attended several local and international executive development trainings on Microfinance which made him one of the finest professionals in the Microfinance industry in the country. Mr. Joof started his employment career as a trained qualified teacher for six years having taught in the Lower, Upper and Senior Secondary levels in various schools across the country. Due to his outstanding work as a teacher, he was awarded the Best Teacher Award in the Upper Basic category in Lower River Region by The Gambia Teacher’s Union and was also appointed as an Assistant Examiner by the West African Examination Council to mark WASSCE final examinations scripts in history. Mr. Joof had a short stint with the National Council for Civic Education where he helped the non-partisan institution in the development and implementation of civic education literacy programmes for the masses. He joined Reliance in November 2007 as an Executive Trainee and rose through the ranks to becoming the General Manager and Head of Operations. He handled a myriad of portfolios along the way including Branch Manager, Head of Sales, Head of Credit Administration, Regional Head, Head of Retail Operations, Head of Information Technology and Head of Risk Management. As General Manager he was responsible for the Operations, Business Development, Credit, Risk Management, IT E-Business portfolios. Mr. Joof left Reliance at the end of 2020 to take up an appointment as Managing Director of APS Islamic Microfinance Co Ltd. He was charged with the responsibility of securing full license from the Central Bank of The Gambia. He is leading the whole process of developing the core business strategy, setting up all the operations of the company and keep it sustainable.
